FAQ for Official Guide of the Railways - August 1936 on CD

 

How Do I Start?


(No installation is required. Official Guide of the Railways - August 1936 runs from the CD and uses your internet browser as the program interface.)

1) Insert the CD into your CD drive and close the drive door

2) If the software does not start automatically on your computer:

- Double-click on “My Computer”  on the Windows Desktop

- Double-click on your CD drive (OGR1936)

- Double-click on the filename OGR_Start or on the filename OGR_Start.html

 

How Do I Navigate the Official Guide of the Railways August 1936 CD?

 

View the pages by selecting Railroad Index, Sequential Index, Station Index from the Top Frame.

Click on links in the Navigation Frame and the Official Guide pages will appear in the View Frame.

At the top of each page, there are buttons for the following functions:

Fit Screen - resize page to fit within the View Frame.

Fit Width - resize page to fit width of the View Frame. Use vertical scroll bar to move up and down.

Full Size - zoom to maximum size view (best quality). Use scroll bars to pan page image.

Rotate - available for pages that are easier to view if rotated 90 degrees.

Two Page - view two pages side-by-side. Useful for two-page maps.

Previous - go to previous page.

Next - go to next page.

 

How Do I Print a Page from the CD?

Internet Explorer:

Right-click on top of the page image and click "Print" on the pop-up menu.

Netscape Navigator:

1) Right-click on the page image and click "View Image" on the pop-up menu.

2) Then click on the "File" menu item and select "Print"

3) To return to the Official Guide interface, click the Back button

Mozilla Firefox:

1) Right-click on the page image and click "View Image" on the pop-up menu.

2) Then click on the "File" menu item and select "Print Preview"

3) Optional - for full size print-outs, these are suggested settings:

   Click on the "Page Setup" button.

   Under the Format & Options tab:

   - set Orientation to "Portrait"

   - set scale to 175%

   Click on the :Margins & Header/Footer

   Set Top, Left, and Right margins to "0" (zero)

   Set all Headers and Footers to "--blank--"

   click the "OK" button

4) Click the "Print" button

5) Click the "Close" button

6) To return to the Official Guide interface, click the Back button

OTHER QUESTIONS:

May I purchase this product as a download?

  • No, this reference is too big for downloading and almost fills a whole CD. We only offer it on CD at this time.

    My CD reader is slow. May I copy this product to my hard drive and run it that way?

  • Sure! But with more than 14,000 files, please be aware that copying the CD to your hard drive can take up to 20 minutes. We do allow and encourage purchasers to make one backup copy for personal use.

    Where did you get the data?

  • We scanned it from the original paper book, enhanced the images, then created html pages, for viewing the entire reference in your internet browser.

    I spotted an error. Who do I notify?
